Palm houses in two cities, photographed in the hour after the misting system runs.

Victorian glasshouses were built to hold a climate that does not belong to the city around them. The air inside is thick and slow, and for an hour after the mist runs everything is soft.
This was an editorial commission that turned into a longer project. I photographed the same houses in London and Lisbon over two springs, always at the same hour.

A monstera leaf against the fogged glass.

Orchids on the slatted benches.

The potting bench, mid-morning.

Ivy coming in through a cracked pane.

The spiral stair up to the gallery.

Misting the tropicals.

Lily pads under the dome.

The desert house at golden hour.

The palm house at closing time.
